Beneath The Rock – The Royal Navy, Gibraltar & The Rolex MilSub

The strange story of a rocky outcrop, penguins, the military and watches. MilSubs are few in number, the same watches are often seen at auctions exchaging hands frequently, over and over. Rarely does one of the 1,250 known examples emerge from a sock drawer for the first time in 50 years, and stranger still is the story of how and why.

Zenith Calibre 135 G.F.J. – A Masterclass in Heritage, Precision and Revival

Few mechanical movements embody the golden age of precision like Zenith’s Calibre 135. First developed in the late 1940s, it dominated observatory trials and became the most awarded chronometer calibre ever created. Today, Zenith revives this legacy with the G.F.J., a reimagined collection that blends archival precision with modern craftsmanship. It is a continuation, not an imitation, and a reminder that true innovation comes from understanding what once worked perfectly and daring to let it live again.

Arnold & Son – The Discerning Choice

Arnold & Son is often set aside by collectors, but the question is why. For the committed archivist and habitual loupe carrier, it represents something increasingly rare: authenticity without affectation. As collectors begin to look beyond noise and novelty, Arnold & Son is quietly positioned to command greater attention among those seeking watches that are genuinely interesting, rigorously made, and intellectually honest.

The project is called Naissance d’une Montre (“Birth of a Watch”)

It is at once the simplest idea ever formulated in contemporary watchmaking, and the most complicated to achieve: to make a watch entirely by hand. It took six years and eighty people to accomplish. Why? Because Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, founding president of Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, willed it into being. But not only that.

Angelus Chronograph Télémètre

Through James’s eyes, Angelus proves that true heritage shines brightest when it’s reimagined, not merely replicated from the archives. The new Chronograph Télémètre embodies this philosophy: evolving from a THA-developed movement into the refined Calibre A5000, it distills the brand’s storied past into 37 millimeters of contemporary brilliance, paying homage to history while defining modern elegance.

The Laurent Ferrier Formula

Laurent Ferrier worked for 37 years at Patek Philippe, and some would say his minimalist style combined with complex watchmaking takes everything that’s good about that brand to the next level. Long-time Patek Philippe collector Michael F. tells us what prompted him to travel to Geneva to learn more about Laurent Ferrier watches, why he fell in love with the brand, and what it feels like to wear a Laurent Ferrier watch (“silk”).
